Our
Vision
Adhering
to the ideals of Reform Judaism, become the Southeast's preeminent
midsize congregation for the learning of Jewish traditions, history
and Torah in a spiritual environment that encourages open-mindedness,
a sense of belonging and Tikkun Olam.
Our
Mission
- To
be democratic. To eliminate the last vestige of authoritarian
rule whether carried out overtly or in secret.
- To
be egalitarian. There is no "class structure" at Beth
HaTephila; nor is there a patriarchy.
- To
be inclusive rather than exclusive; willing to accept all who
wish membership as full members.
- To
be aware of and cater to intergenerational interaction.
- To
make provisions for mixed marriages, converts and interfaith marriages.
- To
become socially involved and not isolated.
- To
be generous - generous not only in the willingness of members
to fund the activities of BHT, but generous in the desire of congregants
to share their time, energy and talent.
- To
be committed to ongoing education throughout the life of all congregants.
- To
persist in its concern for social justice - for congregants, in
the community, and for the global community.
- To
be experimental. Judaism serves us most poorly when our liturgy
and Jewish lifestyle petrify. It serves us best when we are willing
to experiment, evaluate, change - or retain.
